Expedition is a limited edition of 100 prints by Margaret Grill. Sized to fit a standard 10” x 8” frame, the artwork measures approximately 9” high by 6.5” wide. The archival prints were created by Tiny Showcase and ship with a certificate of authenticity. The artwork has been printed on a heavy 290gsm natural white paper.
The original piece is 40" x 30", oil and mixed media on canvas.
Available hand-framed in maple with archival mat and glass by Vermont's Joel Taplin of Taplin MFG. Framed artwork is archivally matted and hung with UV-protective glass. The hand-made frames are made from locally-milled wood with inlaid splines in each corner for added strength. Please allow three weeks for the completion of your custom, hand-made frame.

Meet Margaret Grill
I am an artist inspired by place, a sense of home, and landscape. Often it is the landscape directly outside my window that is the impetus for my work. Located in Saint Paul’s industrial North End, my home and studio borders a wetland preserve. The house itself has been in my family for four generations. A great privilege that comes with residing in my ancestral home is that I am privy to an extensive documentation of how the land appeared through the last 100 years. Witnessing the change from season-to-season, juxtaposed with the evidence of how drastically it has been altered through the years, gives me sense of purpose as an artist.
I am then inspired by process, specifically the fluid, flexible, and messy process of paint. My initial inspiration is worked out through a repetitive progression of drawing, collage, and washes using water-soluble oils. Layering media allows me to illustrate complex ideas into a visual language. This process is then evident in my finished work, as the layers of paint appear in varying degrees of transparency, an effect that speaks to passing time, flux, and my hand as an artist.
I seek to start a conversation about the importance of protecting wild areas and documenting an ever-changing environment while honoring the natural world in our everyday lives. My goal is to have my work inspire others to observe their own landscapes and the changes around us.
