“The mental health crisis in New York continues and New Yorkers deserve more access to psychotherapy provided by Licensed Creative Arts Therapists. Since May 2023 (funded 100% through grassroots action) a lobbyist representing LCATs— has been in Albany, fighting on behalf of LCATs and our clients. LCATs were removed/excluded from 3 recent mental health expansion bills in New York State - a bill to mandate Medicaid coverage, a bill to expand diagnostic privilege, and most recently a bill to mandate blanket commercial health insurance coverage for psychotherapy.  In 2024 we are pressing forward to try to get our LCAT-only insurance coverage bill passed & to add LCATs to the Medicaid Provider List.”

Meet Abbie Zuidema

My art delves into the mysteries of human connection, desire, and sensory experiences. Graduating with a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Painting (‘98) I spent over 20+ years in Brooklyn making art and working in the restaurant industry before setting down roots in Catskill, NY pre COVID. I’ve had the pleasure to paint for the likes of: !ndigo, Starbucks, Kohl's Department Store/Food Network, Sports Illustrated, the Diner Journal, Jaime Oliver Magazine, Alice Waters & appeared on the NPR Brian Lehrer Show.

Food, smell, taste, I don't know how to totally describe them because they're intangible, but it's what I'm after. Trying to understand why we are drawn to the things we are drawn to and desire. Much of my work is about tapping into the nostalgia of childhood that we can't describe with language.

Adding a new dimension to my journey, I recently graduated with distinction from Pratt Institute with a Masters in Psychotherapy/Creative Arts Therapy and will be practicing with SYNC Psychological Services PLLC, in Kingston, NY.
